Facebook Class Overview

This class will be focused on the importance of Social Media Marketing in today’s market. No matter what business you are in, you need to have an online presence on one of the social media platforms that best fits your product or service. We will be discussing the importance of drawing organic traffic to your company via social media and what – and what not to be posting and why. Your social media marketing should have a plan and purpose, budget and goal. Randomly posting your sandwich or meal should not be part of the plan. We will show you successful strategies for big and small companies. Additionally, a basic overview of how to set up a Facebook page for Business and an overview of other social media platforms

Social Media Strategy

  • Facebook
    • Creating a page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create/
    • Choosing the category for your business
    • Naming the page
    • Setting up a profile picture
    • Adding a cover photo
    • Adding a description
    • Choosing the URL
    • Linking page to website

  • Posting strategy:
    • Text
      • Generally used for updates to your audience, are not very effective in capturing attention, should be used sparingly and for non-important updates
    • Images
      • Simple, interesting, visually appealing do very well. Inspirational quotes do well and spread organically.
    • Video
      • Quick interesting videos like: time lapses, recipes, ideas, and life hacks do well and will spread. Starting out they won’t get as much traction unless you boost them by paying for the views.
    • Live Video
      • Holding live demonstrations, answering questions, or doing seminars works well. You can use them to create content on the fly, showcase events, etc.

  • Getting likes and building your audience
    • Inviting friends and family to like your page
    • Inviting people who already like your page to share it with their friends (works better after you’re established)
    • Paying for likes by using Facebook ads
    • Sharing your page to Facebook groups, on your website, in your email signature, on your other social networks, in your business location.
    • Offering discounts and other specials like giveaways to get people to like your page.
